More about Hong Kong Funeral Home
Hong Kong Funeral Parlour was founded in the 1930s. It was located in Tak Yan Street in the early days and was built of bamboo scaffolding. Until 1951, it was purchased by Mr. Siu Ming who was known as "Funeral King" and his family. Funeral parlours stood in great numbers in Wan Chai district from the 1940s to the 1950s, including International Funeral Parlour and Morrison Funeral Parlour and so on. Later, since the government developed Wan Chai, funeral parlours closed down or moved out one after another in the district. Among them, Hong Kong Funeral Parlour moved to the present site in 1964.
Since HKFP moved to the present location, it has been gradually becoming the only funeral parlour in Hong Kong Island. Having a large-scale hall which can accommodate hundreds of people, so a lot of celebrities and tycoons held funeral ceremonies there in the past. Occasionally, owing to the numerous mourners gathered at the site such that the parlour needed to borrow the nearby Java Road Playground.
