Diwali or Dipavali is one of the most famous festivals in India, which is the most popular festival of all festivals in South Asia. Indians pay as much attention to Diwali as we Chinese do to the Spring Festival. Before the festival, Indians begin to clean the houses, go to various retail markets to buy Diwali gifts for relatives and friends. They also need a lot of lights to decorate the houses and prepare food for the festival. Diwali is a very busy and lively festival in India.

Origin of Diwali

The word "Diwali" comes from the Sanskrit "Deepavali", which means "rows of lighted lamps". The origin of Diwali is to commemorate the story of Rama's return to his palace from 13 years of exile in the forest after he defeated the devil Ravana. In addition, people also celebrate the day Mother Goddess killed a demon named Narakāsura.

Dates of Diwali

The dates of Diwali change every year, and the exact date is established each year based on the Hindu lunar calendar. The festival is usually between October and November, for a period of five days.

Traditions and Celebrations of Diwali

Diwali is one of the most important festivals in India every year, during that time, many Indian families light up the candles and diyas as well as putting on other festival decorations. It’s also a time to visit families, friends and clients with best Diwali wishes.
