More about Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Location of Hong Kong Cultural Centre was the former Kowloon Terminal of Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR), close to Star Ferry and the historic Clock Tower. Centre was completed in 1989 and opened by British Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The Centre was managed by Urban Council in early days (Became Provisional Urban Council after the Transfer of Sovereignty in 1997). Since the reorganization of government in 2000, Centre became managed by new established Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

The hall is finished in high quality oak and fitted with adjustable acoustic canopy and curtains to ensure quality acoustics effect. Installed behind the open stage is a 93-stop, 8,000-pipe Austrian organ, one of the largest mechanical tracker action organs in the world.

Grand Theatre is a traditional proscenium theatre, providing total 1,734 seats in stall, circle, upper circle and box, which is a rare four-story auditorium design in Hong Kong. It can cater for large-scale opera, drama and variety performances, and also can provide orchestra pit through removing seats when necessary.
